If you want lots of big blue eggs, I have two flocks of Whiting True Blues to choose from. Whiting True Blues were created by Dr. Tom Whiting, a poultry geneticist who got his PhD from the University of Arkansas.
There is no standard feather color for the breed and you will get a variety of physical features, but they all carry both of the blue egg genes needed to be a true blue egg chicken breed. They are not Easter Eggers.
My Whiting True Blues originally came from Murray McMurray Hatchery in Iowa. My first batch came in 2017 with additional batches in 2018 and 2019. In 2023 I’ll be hatching my 5th generation.
In addition to lots of big, blue eggs I have been selecting for Whiting True Blues that all have the Silver Duckwing feather pattern such as the rooster and hen pictured above.
The roosters and hens will mostly have the fluffy cheeks and beard but it may take another generation or two to reach my goal of all offspring having the fluffy cheeks and beard.
Their eggs do vary a bit with shades of light blue. Some eggs have a heavy white bloom. When hatching I’ve always selected the biggest eggs in order to maintain that quality. The eggs in the top carton are from easter eggers, the bottom two cartons are from my Whiting True Blues.
